The Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained three individuals for spraying Naira notes during a burial ceremony.
The EFCC announced this development in a statement posted on X.com on Friday.
The statement noted, “The suspects were apprehended based on credible intelligence regarding their alleged involvement in the abuse of the Naira.”
The individuals identified are Stanley Ogbolu, 35, Odiaka Sorwu, 42, and Kelvin Anyakwu, 42.
They were arrested in Asaba, Delta State, for allegedly spraying Naira notes on a celebrant during the burial.
The EFCC further mentioned that the suspects would be prosecuted once investigations are completed.
This arrest is part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on the abuse of the Naira, as spraying and mishandling banknotes are offences under Nigerian law.
