Six Teenagers Drown in Kaduna’s Mbang River After Junior WAEC Exam
In a tragic incident, six teenagers drowned in the Mbang river near Ribang village, Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State. The tragedy occurred on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, around 5:30 p.m., as the students were returning home from their Junior WAEC exams.
The victims, all students of Government Secondary School Fadan Chawai, were identified as Manasseh Monday (16), Musa John (16), Pius David (15), Monday Ayuba (16), David Danlami (19), and Yahuza Audu (16).
Pastor Simon Ishaku, the National Public Relations Officer of the Ribang Development Association, confirmed the incident on Wednesday. He reported that three bodies have been recovered and buried, while the search for the remaining three continues.
Pastor Ishaku highlighted the ongoing danger posed by the Mbang river, which has claimed lives over the years. He emphasized the community’s need for essential infrastructure, including a school, hospital, access roads, and a bridge. He called on the Federal Government, Governor Uba Sani, Senator Sunday Katung, and local representatives to urgently address these needs to prevent further tragedies.
ASP Mansir Hassan, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, has yet to release an official statement. Meanwhile, Mubarak Muhammad, the Zonal Coordinator of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency Zone One, stated he would verify the incident and provide an official update to the public.
