The Federal Government has announced a new initiative to repurpose Zaria Hotels in Kaduna State into classrooms and hostels for the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria.
During a press briefing in Zaria on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, revealed this development.
Keyamo explained that the acquisition of Zaria Hotels will serve as an extension to NCAT, enhancing its capacity for growth.
“We have sufficient land here for expansion, which bodes well for the college’s growth,” Keyamo stated. “Additionally, we’ve acquired Zaria Hotels to supplement the existing facilities.”
The minister assured the college’s administration of the government’s ongoing commitment to addressing areas needing improvement.
Regarding rumors about the relocation of the college’s fire simulator and other facilities, Keyamo dismissed these claims, asserting that there were no such plans.
“Such rumors are unfounded. NCAT is the central training facility for the aviation sector; these falsehoods are spread by mischief-makers,” he clarified.
Acting Rector of NCAT, Mr. Joseph Imalighwe, expressed gratitude for the minister’s visit and continued support for the institution.
Established in 1964, NCAT is funded by the Civil Aviation Department of the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Aviation. It serves as a training hub for Nigerian and African pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers, and navigation aid technicians. Over the years, it has expanded to include a flying school, air traffic services, a communications school, and an aeronautical electronics and telecommunications school to fulfill its mission.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has recognized NCAT as a Regional Training Centre of Excellence (ICAO RTCE).
