Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, along with its bustling commercial center, Lagos, have been identified as the most and second most affordable cities for expatriates to reside in 2024, according to Mercer’s Cost of Living rankings.
The report underscores the importance of cost of living for expatriates when deciding on a relocation destination, as it significantly affects their quality of life and financial well-being.
The affordability of these Nigerian cities can be attributed to currency depreciations, which have lowered the living costs for international workers.
At the more affordable end of the scale, cities such as Islamabad, Lagos, and Abuja rank among the least expensive options for expatriates.
These rankings provide valuable insights into economic trends, aiding individuals and organizations in making informed decisions about global mobility.
Within Africa, Bangui has climbed 12 positions to secure the 14th spot globally. Djibouti and N’Djamena are also noteworthy, ranking 18th and 21st globally, respectively.
Conversely, Blantyre, Lagos, and Abuja are among the most affordable African cities, ranking 221st, 225th, and 226th in the world, respectively.
