Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, and other southern governors have gathered in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, for a regional meeting. The meeting is taking place at the Presidential Lodge, Ibara Housing Estate.
Sanwo-Olu, the Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum, led the group of early attendees. Governors present at the meeting include:
- Seyi Makinde of Oyo State
- Alex Otti of Abia State
- Ademola Adeleke of Osun State
- Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State
- Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State
- Bassey Otu of Cross River State
Additionally, deputy governors attending are:
- Chinyere Ekomaru of Imo State
- Monday Onyeme of Delta State
- Olayide Adelami of Ondo State
A total of 17 governors were expected to attend the meeting according to a banner announcing the event. This meeting marks the first gathering of the Southern Governors since the death of Rotimi Akeredolu, the former Governor of Ondo State and previous chairman of the forum, in December 2023. The forum has yet to elect a new chairman following Akeredolu’s passing. The agenda for the meeting has not been disclosed.
