South African rapper Shebeshxt is grieving the loss of his nine-year-old daughter, who tragically died in a car accident.
“My life will never be the same without your presence,” the rapper expressed in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday.
Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, was en route with three passengers to perform at the African National Congress (ANC) Siyanqoba Rally celebration concert in Limpopo province on Saturday when their vehicle collided with a heavy truck and overturned.
The accident not only claimed his daughter’s life but also resulted in Shebeshxt losing his foot. He shared his anguish on X, saying, “My heart is so broken… I’m trying to come to terms with the trauma and tears from the accident. Losing my foot was already too much, but losing my daughter is unbearable.”
Fans and the music community have been extending their condolences and support. The Limpopo Artists Movement (LAM) released a statement on Monday, saying, “We cannot fathom the pain and grief he is experiencing, but we want him to know he is not alone. The entire artistic community stands in solidarity, offering comfort and support. Shebe is not only a talented artist but also a cherished member of our creative fraternity.”
Videos of the crash have surfaced online, showing Shebeshxt lying on the ground as paramedics attend to him. Tidimalo Chuene, spokesperson for the Limpopo transport department, told local media that the cause of the crash is under investigation.
This is the second car accident Shebeshxt has experienced this year. In January, he was involved in another crash that left him unscathed, although his car was totaled.
Shebeshxt’s rise to fame began with his hit song “Ke Di Shxt Malume,” which gained massive popularity on TikTok. Despite his growing success in the South African music scene, he has also courted controversy. Earlier this year, a video of him brandishing a gun during a performance went viral on social media.
